| New Job/Chappaqua |

So last week was pretty busy. Tuesday I had an interview at a school for an assistant position (I know the head teacher, she just got promoted and we had a class together at Columbia). Wednesday I went to Chappaqua to watch Jared, but I ended up having both boys since Elliott's school was canceled due to the weather. I ended up having a 12 hour day, which was pretty intense considering I had to get on a 7:15 train at Grand Central. Thursday I had a follow-up at the school to meet the supervisor of the lower school and meet the teacher and the other assistant. It went well and they offered me the job. I accepted and we went on a tour of the school and I got to meet a lot of the kids (they're really cute). Jon and I went to see Yes Man, which was actually quite funny. Friday I went back to Chappaqua (8:16am train this time) and stayed until about 3:30. I pretty much banked for working two days so that was nice!
Job: I'll be working full time in Brooklyn (its an hour and fifteen minute door to door commute) and working with the 3 year olds (there are 4 boys, but they are looking to add two more students). They are all hearing impaired and have pretty much no language. One of the kids practically fell in love with me when I came in. He seriously wouldn't concentrate or look away from me. They're all really cute. Another child is on the autism spectrum and is a child of deaf parents as well. Its going to be a really challenging position for me because I'm going to want them to learn as much as Elliott knows even though that isn't feasible in the course of 6 months. The other assistant is pregnant so I'm hoping she doesn't get lazy and try to push work off on me. Both women are from Europe and have thick accents (which is kind of difficult when working with language delayed children, but whatever). I'm pretty excited about it and even more excited to have a regular pay check.
Chappaqua: Elliott and Jared gave me a Coach "J" key chain for the holidays, which was super cute. Elliott is obsessed with giving presents right now so he helped me open it, apparently he's been trying to do that since he helped pick it out. I had so much fun with both of them. Jared is finally putting food into his mouth and actually chewing, which is huge. If he stops growing he has to go into the hospital and be put on a feeding tube because he's not even on the growth chart for his age. Its really sad, but he's such a happy kid so that's good. Elliott is doing awesome at potty training and plays actual games now (he turned 3 at the end of November). I'm amazed every day at how smart he is. I'm bummed that I'm not going to be working for them very much because of this job, but Stacey (the mom) and I are still arranging evenings and weekends that I can come up so that'll be good. Plus she is trying to find someone to replace me and Elliott said he didn't want anyone other than me, which is cute.
This weekend: It has been rather uneventful because of the weather. Yesterday was snowy and I had horrible cramps so I didn't go to the bank with Jon. There ended up being a track fire and he had to get off the train at the above ground station and waited forever for no trains to stop. He ended up walking almost a mile home in the cold. Not so fun. He's at work today and I've just been putting away clothes, attempting to organize my room a little and I made a collage... ha. Its so dorky, but I've literally wanted to make it since the fall of 2007 when Jon and I first moved in together and I just now got around to it. I might make more because its kinda fun and our apartment is not decorated at all so this will help. Plus, I have a feeling we are going to be here for another year... not ideal, but we probably won't get approved for a different apartment even though we could afford it.
So tomorrow its back to waking up early! On my way home I have to stop at Macys to pay my bill and then to the tailor because I have a lot of pants to be altered and I've been way too lazy to go drop them off. I've had the urge to go shopping as well, but after getting my pay schedule for my new job I don't think I can really afford to shop right now...maybe I'll change my mind if my friend Giselle decides to come down next weekend from med school.
I think that's it. Hopefully I'll get back into the habit of taking outfit pictures since I have something to get dressed for everyday, but I'm not so sure since its cold and I don't really dress up when I'm working with tiny kids. I'm too scared I'll get dirty or something. We'll see in the morning. |
